Partnerships and programs

UBC Okanagan has a distinct and diverse learning community of nearly 12,000 students, faculty and staff from more than 121 countries. Through our international partnerships and global programs, UBC Okanagan faculty and students are having worldwide impacts in support of a just and sustainable world.

Strategic Partnerships

Through its Wine Research Centre, UBC is building a partnership with the University of Bordeaux focused on the areas of “Vine and Wine.” In collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Vancouver, the two institutions hosted a FACT-B  French Ameri-Can Climate Talk conference in Spring 2022.  The partnership focuses on bringing researchers and educators together to collaborate on wine-related research and programming.

The University of Development Studies (UDS) and UBC Okanagan have a long-standing relationship, initially fostered by Okanagan University College (OUC) Nursing faculty who contributed to the development of the Nurse Practitioner Program at UDS. The first group of Nursing students from UBC Okanagan (formerly OUC) participated in rural health practicum placements and training opportunities in Ghana in 2000; since then the program has seen 200 student placements.

UBC Okanagan faculty and staff continue to foster the relationship, collaborating on professional development workshops and other teaching, learning and research opportunities through programs and initiatives such as the Global Health Practicum, Guided Reflective Inquiry Projects (GRIP), iClicker workshops, and more.

The partnership between the University of Exeter and UBC Okanagan has resulted in many joint funding and research opportunities across a number of disciplines, including partnerships with the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, Faculty of Health and Social Development, and the School of Engineering.

Most recent is the newly launched UBCO-Exeter Excellence Initiative which created Initiator and Catalyst Grants and a Visiting Scholar Joint Fellowship Scheme to support professors and researchers at the University of Exeter and in UBC’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies and Irving K Barber School of Arts and Social Sciences tackle research and/or education challenges through collaboration.

Northwestern Polytechnical University and UBC Okanagan have been working together to provide academic opportunities for visiting students through unique academic pathways with the School of Engineering. Though planned activities were postponed due to the pandemic, both institutions are enthusiastic to continue planning greater academic ties between our universities.
